Evening Check

“Electric cars now outsell gasoline cars in the United States.”

Missing context

Northline Report

Our read

That sentence is true only if battery-electric vehicles are the majority of new U.S. sales. They are not. Share has climbed, and a single electric model can top a monthly chart, but gasoline vehicles are still most of what dealers move and nearly all of what is on the road. A rising share is not a change of guard. The claim drops the denominator.

Evening Check. One line is doing a lot of work tonight.

Northline Report said electric cars now outsell gasoline cars in the United States. Listen to the scale of that. Not a model. Not a month on a single chart. The claim says the electric fleet has passed gasoline.

It has not. Electric share of new sales is up, and some months an electric model is the one people talk about. Gasoline vehicles are still the majority of new sales, and they are almost the entire fleet already on the road. You can be early to a transition and still misstate the present.

Verdict: missing context. The interesting fact is the rise. The missing fact is the size of what it has not yet passed.
