The record

Every check, newest first. A new episode is a new object in episodes.json — the page does not need a redesign.

Late Check

“The United States has not built a new oil refinery in fifty years.”

Recurring claim

The line is true only if it means a large fuels refinery with full downstream capacity. EIA's January 1, 2026 count is 130 operable refineries. The newest is Texas International Terminals in Galveston, 45,000 barrels a day, first operated in February 2022. Smaller plants also came online in 2021, 2019, 2017, and 2015. The newest refinery with significant downstream capacity is Marathon Garyville, Louisiana, online in 1977 and now 617,000 barrels a day. Existing plants have added capacity since, including ExxonMobil Beaumont in 2023. No new large refinery is not the same as no new refinery.

Evening Check

“Electric cars now outsell gasoline cars in the United States.”

Northline Report

That sentence is true only if battery-electric vehicles are the majority of new U.S. sales. They are not. Share has climbed, and a single electric model can top a monthly chart, but gasoline vehicles are still most of what dealers move and nearly all of what is on the road. A rising share is not a change of guard. The claim drops the denominator.

Morning Check

“The United States has not built a new nuclear reactor in fifty years.”

Civic Ledger

The absolute does not survive the record. Watts Bar Unit 2 in Tennessee began commercial operation in 2016. Vogtle Units 3 and 4 in Georgia followed in 2023 and 2024 — the first newly built U.S. reactors in a generation, which is not the same thing as none in fifty years. The fleet is old. New construction has been rare and expensive. Rarity is not absence.

Contradicted

Late Check

“A classified briefing this week confirmed the regional blackout was caused by a foreign cyberattack.”

Night Signal

Nothing on the public record confirms that sentence. A classified briefing cannot be audited from the outside, and no on-the-record finding, technical report, or utility filing has established a foreign cyberattack as the cause. Silence in the public record is not proof the claim is false. It is proof we cannot check it. Until a citable record exists, the verdict stays unverifiable.
